Ubuntu (7.10) Gutsy Gibbon, VirtualBox 1.6.4: compile error “[pass_bldprogs_before] Error 2″

Recently when trying to compile VirtualBox-1.6.4 OSE I ran into an error runing the kmk bit. It was saying:

kmk[2]: *** No rule to make target `pass_bldprogs'.  Stop.
kmk[2]: Leaving directory `/tmp/VirtualBox-1.6.4/src/apps'
kmk[1]: *** [pass_bldprogs_before] Error 2
kmk[1]: Leaving directory `/tmp/VirtualBox-1.6.4/src'
kmk: *** [pass_bldprogs_before] Error 2

Ubuntu (7.10) Gutsy Gibbon Applications Menu won’t open

Recently my Applications Menu in Ubuntu 7.10 stopped opening after I mistakenly let my hard drive fill up completely. I wasn’t even able to edit the menus, so after banging on the mouse buttons trying to force the menu open I found a solution.

X Multimedia System (XMMS) is a free audio player which runs on Ubuntu. You’re reading a simple how-to on the installation of XMMS on Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon. Two methods that work well are either through the “add/remove” dialog (which I feel takes longer) or by using terminal.
